Vintage Chic On The Catwalk

One of the trends we saw when bridal designers showed off their new collections earlier this year was a clear 'vintage' influence in many of the gowns.

'Vintage' is a very vague term, and certainly there was plenty of evidence of the influence of the 1920's, 1940's and 1950's in some of the designs we saw at the big wedding showcase in Harrogate this September.

Some dresses looked like they could have walked straight out of the pages of a 1950s magazine, worn by Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly. Others carry just an influence of days gone by, whether it's in the style of the lace or the length of the gown.  Gowns in the boutique like 'Audrey' and 'Dita' can really offer a touch of that 50s glamour, but won't look out of place in the most modern of settings.

Equally, you can see a vintage touch in some of the accessories that are really on trend. We carry a lovely range of birdcage  veils that wouldn't look out of place in a photo of a '50s bride, and we've also got parasols that would make you think of a wedding at a country house in the '20s or '30s.

If you want to go the whole hog and have a vintage style wedding there are plenty of ways to accommodate that. But if your hubby-to-be doesn't fancy period costume you can always reflect a feel of times gone by with a hint of vintage style.

We're more than happy to try offer advice on bringing together vintage styles in your dress and accessories. You can be right on trend with a look from yester-year. I just hope the 1970s don't make a comeback soon!
